Prabowo Subianto at APEC: Competition is Inevitable, Leaders Must Be Wiser

Lima, Peru – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto delivered a keynote address at the APEC CEO Summit 2024, held at the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima, Peru, on Thursday, November 14. Speaking on the theme “People, Business, Prosperity,” Prabowo called for wisdom and prudence from global leaders in navigating today’s interconnected and competitive world.

“Geopolitical tensions are a reality today, but I remain optimistic about humanity’s collective interests. I believe that leaders of the world’s major nations will ultimately choose the path of shared good,” Prabowo said in his address.

“Competition is part of history; it will always exist. However, our planet has become smaller because we are now more interconnected,” he added.

Prabowo acknowledged the dual nature of technological advances, which can drive unprecedented progress but also pose existential threats if misused.

“Our planet is brimming with incredible technological breakthroughs that can significantly improve human life, but the same technological power can also destroy life very quickly. This demands that leaders be wiser, more patient, and more accommodating,” he explained.

Emphasizing his leadership philosophy, Prabowo reiterated his commitment to collaboration, engagement, communication, and negotiation.

“I believe prosperity can only emerge from peace. Peace stems from understanding, and understanding arises from engagement and negotiation,” he stated.

Prabowo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to attend the APEC Summit, which he viewed as a platform to reconnect with global leaders, introduce Indonesia to new partners, and foster international cooperation.

“Ultimately, I believe that prosperity ensures peace and stability,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
