Prabowo Subianto Invites APEC Nations to Collaborate with Indonesia: “Funds Will Circulate Within Our Own Economies”

Lima, Peru – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto called on APEC nations to collaborate with Indonesia in harnessing natural resources together to ensure economic benefits remain within the region. He made this appeal during his keynote speech at the APEC CEO Summit 2024, held at the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima, Peru, on Thursday, November 14.

Prabowo acknowledged the significant challenges faced by nations today but emphasized that many, including Indonesia, are blessed with abundant resources, vast territories, fertile lands, and water.

“We are fortunate to have the ability, in a few years, to become fully self-sufficient in energy, including green energy. Indonesia could soon be one of the few countries capable of achieving 100% renewable energy,” he stated.

Prabowo expressed optimism about Indonesia’s ability to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, highlighting the nation’s immense geothermal potential.

“I believe 60% of the world’s geothermal energy potential lies in Indonesia. We also have significant solar energy potential, but our primary strength will come from bioenergy—plant-based fuels that we can produce,” he explained.

He encouraged APEC nations to join Indonesia in these initiatives, citing planned collaborations with Brazil and the Republic of Congo as examples.

“With Brazil and possibly the Republic of Congo, we have the potential to produce plant-based fuels, which I believe will create numerous opportunities. This will save significant foreign exchange and ensure funds circulate within our own economies,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo also revealed ongoing discussions about collaboration with Peru, a fellow APEC member.

“We are also fortunate to possess essential minerals and other critical resources for modern life. I have discussed with the Peruvian government how our resources complement one another for a sustainable future,” he added.

In closing, Prabowo emphasized the importance of wise leadership in a competitive world, reiterating his commitment to collaboration, engagement, communication, and negotiation.

“I believe that prosperity can only emerge from peace. Peace stems from understanding, and understanding arises from engagement and negotiation,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
