IKN— A moment of warmth between Indonesian President Joko Widodo and President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, was captured during the 79th Independence Day Ceremony at the State Palace in IKN, North Penajam Paser, on Saturday (17/8).
The two were seated next to each other, with Prabowo on the right side of Jokowi, while First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo was on Jokowi’s left.
Just after the ceremony inspector and the MC prompted Jokowi to proceed to the honor podium, Prabowo was observed waiting for Jokowi to sit down first.
Earlier, after leading the commemoration of the proclamation moments at the Nusantara Capital (IKN), Jokowi also shook hands with Prabowo.
When Jokowi returned to his podium, Prabowo stood to greet him, and then extended his hand for a handshake.
After both sat down, Prabowo and Jokowi were seen chatting and exchanging smiles.
For this 79th Independence Day celebration, Prabowo wore a black Javanese traditional beskap outfit complemented by an Udeng blangkon. Meanwhile, Jokowi was dressed in a Kustin Kutai traditional attire.
Their camaraderie and closeness were also evident just before the start of the 79th Independence Day Ceremony.
Jokowi was seen waiting for Prabowo in one of the rooms at the Nusantara Capital. Shortly after Prabowo arrived, he greeted Jokowi with a namaste gesture.
It is noted that this first Independence Day Ceremony of the 79th year was held at the State Palace in the new capital, attended by Jokowi and Prabowo. Meanwhile, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, the event was attended by Vice President of Indonesia KH. Ma’ruf Amin and the Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
