Prabowo Subianto’s Speech at NasDem Congress: I Am Saddened by Our Tradition of Insulting

Jakarta – President-elect Prabowo Subianto expressed his sorrow over the tendency of Indonesians to insult one another, especially when such insults are directed at leaders without considering their contributions.

“I am saddened if we have a tradition of constantly belittling and insulting our leaders,” Prabowo said during the closing of the 3rd Congress of the National Democrat Party (NasDem) at JCC, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 27.

He praised President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) achievements, noting that Jokowi’s leadership has earned admiration from many countries, particularly for maintaining inflation at 2.5%.

“Just think, where else can you find that? In the past three years, only a few countries have managed this. And this achievement did not just fall from the sky,” he added.

Prabowo also highlighted how Indonesia quickly recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic under Jokowi’s leadership. He emphasized that this accomplishment is significant and not something that happened by chance.

“I’m not defending anyone, but I will say what’s right is right, and what’s wrong is wrong,” he clarified.

In front of NasDem members, Prabowo also expressed his gratitude to the party for supporting his administration. He hoped that unity would continue to be fostered in the effort to build the nation.

“So, once again, thank you to NasDem for joining me. We are united, we are working together, and we will prove that we want and can join forces for the people of Indonesia,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
